We are a Nigerian non-profit of lawyers, health professionals, accountants and communicators who believe no woman should live with vesico-vaginal fistula, or live with it alone.
Meet the teamIn 2018, at a dimly lit cafeteria in Yola, Nigeria, the vision for FCI was tabled before a group of young people driven by the desire to make a positive change.
Barbara Madu brought the idea. Nkasike Gbana, moved by Stephanie Linus-Okereke’s film Dry, joined her in founding the organisation. Others soon followed.
That conversation became the Fistula Care Initiative. Today our team brings together skills from law, public health, medicine, finance and communications, all focused on one goal: a Nigeria where no woman lives with fistula.

At Fistula Care Initiative, our mission is to eradicate VVF and empower affected women through comprehensive care and support. We raise awareness about this preventable and treatable condition, provide funding for life-changing surgeries, and offer rehabilitation services to help women recover and rebuild their lives.
VVF is preventable and treatable. We make sure women, families and communities know it.
We pay for the repair surgery that ends the leaking and gives a woman her life back.
We offer rehabilitation and support so women can heal, rebuild and return home with confidence.
The principles behind every conversation, surgery and homecoming.
Every woman we meet is a person with a name, a family and a future. We speak with her, never about her.
Repair changes a life. Prevention changes a generation. We work on both.
We partner with hospitals, government bodies and communities, because no one ends VVF alone.
We keep sound financial systems so every naira given can be accounted for.
